“Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked. You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. – Luke 6:35-36
I was reading these two verses and I had to stop and meditate on these verses. “[F]or he is kind to those you are unthankful and wicked. You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.” God’s character is really amazing. Even the people that are unthankful and wicked, God is kind and has compassion for them. I have to reflect on my life and ask have I had compassion on others in this “extreme” way? It might seem extreme to me, but is actually just the basics of being a child of God. Putting this compassion into practice will not be easy, but then again, the cross wasn’t easy either.
If we really want to see God move in our lives, we must begin to act like Him. Have compassion for people even when they don’t seem to deserve it. We have all had God’s compassion work for us – “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” – Romans 5:8 No matter what we do in this life, we can never repay what Christ has done for us. But because of that great love – we can let others know how God has changed our life. Even when people are difficult or stubborn, we must show compassion – “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. “ – John 13:35 This Christianity in action is what will let others see that there is a real difference in those who have accepted Jesus as Lord.
