Instructions for Life

In Devotional, News by Howard Fox

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”- Joshua 1:8-9 NLT

The Word of God is literally an instruction book for life. I will be successful in my life if I read the Word and apply the instructions – I will grow spiritually. I cannot get the results found in the Bible if I choose not to follow and apply the instructions. For instance, if I purchase a gym membership, but never visit the gym, I can’t expect the results similar to those that go to the gym four times a week. Even though I have access to the gym, I have to invest time and effort into working out, to get the benefits of having a gym membership. In the same way, I can be a church member but not get the same spiritual results as those that actively follow the Word of God until I invest time and effort into reading the Bible and then applying biblical principles to my life. I encourage you to read the bible and put into practice the principles you learn. As you continue to do this your character will change and you will learn more about God through the process.

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. – James 1:22-25 NLT
